When you are working with Scribe Online Synchronization Service and you have a text file as your source, you sometimes need to add fields after you have created your connection and used it in a map. Those new fields do not show up immediately in the Scribe Online screens. So what do you do to make the new fields show up?
In this post, I will show you a workflow for how update your connection metadata with new fields.
Let's say you changed the format of your text file by adding some new fields to it. Editing the connection and using some of the features, such as Preview, might show you an error message that looks like this.
Scribe Online recognizes that your text file format has changed, but it does not know if the changes are legitimate.
To Update a Text Connection with New Fields
- Edit the connection and click the Fields tab.
-
Click the Revert button. This will delete the saved metadata for the text connection involved and will parse the text file again to set up new metadata. In the process your new fields will be added to the saved metadata. Note the "reverting" will remove any changes that you manually you made to the text file metadata.
-
Scroll to the right and you will see the new fields.
- Test the connection.
- Save the connection and open your solution.
-
Edit the map that you want to change. When you go to the Fields tab, you will see the new fields that were added to the connection when you used the Revert feature.
- Now you can map those new fields in your source to the desired target fields.
